The contest is open to experienced competitors as well as first-time teams, restaurant teams, BBQ groups, and teams of friends.

However, in the event of excessive applications, we will evaluate all entries thoroughly and notify the team representative of the selection results by late September. During this screening, we will assess "past track records" and "dedication to BBQ" to ensure alignment with the tournament's goals.

Q4. Do I need to be a KCBS member to enter?

No.

You do not need to be a KCBS member to compete in the KCBS MID JAPAN BBQ SHOWDOWN.

However, a team using its qualification to compete in the corresponding championship event in the United States must hold a valid KCBS membership.

A winning team that is not already a KCBS member must complete the required membership registration before completing its entry procedures for the U.S. event.

Q5. How many people may be on a team?

Each team may have a maximum of three members.

One member must be registered as the Team Captain. Official communication from the contest organizer will normally be sent to the Team Captain.

Chicken

Pork Ribs

To be eligible for the overall ranking, a team must enter and submit an entry in both categories.

Q7. How will the entries be judged?

All entries will be evaluated through blind judging. Judges will not know which team prepared each entry.

Entries will primarily be judged in the following three areas:

All cooking equipment, fuels, heat sources, and cooking methods must comply with KCBS Backyard Contest Rules and the safety regulations of the venue.

Each team is responsible for providing its own grills, smokers, fuel, cooking equipment, and other necessary supplies.

Teams that are unsure whether their equipment complies with the rules should contact the organizer before the contest.

Q12. Do teams provide their own meat and ingredients?
