About the Mid Japan BBQ Showdown

The Mid Japan BBQ Showdown is the first KCBS-sanctioned barbecue competition held in Japan, organized by the KCBS Japan Executive Committee under the rules of the Kansas City Barbeque Society, America's largest barbecue organization. The inaugural event takes place on Sunday, November 29, 2026, at Wood Design Park Seto in Aichi, where teams compete across two categories — Chicken and Pork Ribs — turning in each entry within its allotted window. A champion is crowned through blind judging on three criteria: Appearance, Taste, and Tenderness. The Grand Champion earns qualification to a corresponding championship event in the United States, opening a pathway from a regional Japanese stage to a global barbecue platform.

This event is for pitmasters, competition teams, certified KCBS judges, barbecue enthusiasts, sponsors who want to reach a passionate food community, and the media covering Japan's growing live-fire culture. Whether you are an experienced competitor stepping onto a world-standard stage for the first time in Japan, a judge evaluating each plate against strict KCBS scoring, or a visitor coming to witness authentic American-style barbecue, the Mid Japan BBQ Showdown provides the stage, the rules, and the standards. The competition is built and operated by the KCBS Japan Executive Committee, working in cooperation with the Kansas City Barbeque Society to bring an official KCBS Backyard Contest to Japan.
